INFOAMBIENTE is a project approved by the Inter-American Development Bank (Non-Reimbursable Technical Cooperation ATN/II-6543-UR) and executed by DEVNET-Uruguay, in agreement with the Ministry of Housing, Land Planning and the Environment.

Activities for the creation of the System began on October 1st 1999 and will continue through September 30th 2000, date in which the System will be fully operational.

INFOAMBIENTE is a support system offering updated environmental information and granting interactive communication among the different public and private agents. Its structure is based on the evolving availability of material on environmental issues, granting potential users the benefits of real time Internet access queries.

It seeks to ensure the participation of the greatest number of users and data generators possible on a national level, enabling a smooth dialogue among all the bodies, institutions and individuals throughout the country. It favors a decentralized, dynamic, permanently updated and flexible system.

DEVNET is a Non-Governmental Organization, with Consultative Status Category 1 (UN ECOSOC), created in Montevideo in 1992 and acknowledged as an International Organization by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay (Res. 320/93). It has vast experience in the production and management of similar information systems.
